Hi! I've been horsey ever since I can remember - my dad brainwashed me by putting me on a horse before I could walk...

Sadly I've never had my own horse, but I've gained so much because of this that I won't complain! I learned about tack because I would pay for lessons by cleaning it; I learned about grooming because I would go out to the KZN Wildlife Parks and groom their horses to quench my thirst for them; I've read too many horse-care and how-to books to keep track of; I've learned how to deal with the horses that nobody wants to ride (because they're "mean" or "crazy") because I'd grab (and still do grab!) any opportunity to ride or be with horses! Because of this last point I've become very interested in horse psychology and spend most of my horsey time doing ground-work that involves Parelli and Join Up...

I plan to do diploma courses with Lingfield Correspondence (UK) in horse care, stable management, etc and to get into the natural horse-training world!

And to end off, one of my favourite quotes:
“A horse is the projection of peoples' dreams about themselves - strong, powerful, beautiful - and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence.”
Pam Brown

Hi Vicci, sorry I took so long to get back to you. 6 weeks isn't a problem and a courier is probably the best way of you getting it there. There are 3 boxes, 1 for each level and in each box there is a video, a booklet giving the overview of that level and all the little pocket guides that take you through it step by step. I also have a 'carrot stick' somewhere that I will gladly include if I can find it, as well as the short and medium ropes.

After looking on the internet I see that the home study program doesn't seem to have changed much although in level one there are a set of 6 DVDs. So there is much more visual stuff. It is about R3000 new so if I could get R1500 it would be great. Let me know what you think, Alex

Thanks Vicci, she's an appy/arab cross!
As for the Parelli kit, it's all three levels are complete but I have had it for a long while so it is on VHS not DVD, although it would be easy enough for you to have DVDs copied. I will let you know how much I want for it ASAP,
Alex

It's such a pity I only entered the horse world after I moved to Plett! EL has always been very horsey and I can just imagine the fun I could have if I was there now. When I was growing up, we used to go on holiday to Cintsa East and go on beach rides with horses from Cintsa West. There were quite a few riding schools in EL when I still lived there. Most of the people I knew kept their horses elsewhere because they lived in town, so I am totally blessed now to have my horses with me on a farm. That's also why I waited. I wanted to be able to walk out of my door and have my horse right there. It really does create a closer bond. I just wish I had the knowledge and experience you are now gaining!

Hi Vicci,

I am originally from East London and have been in Plett for 4 years now. It has always been my dream to own a horse but it only came true at the age of 37!! Hang in there, my beautiful boy was worth the long agonizing wait!
