I am honestly not sure how much time he has when he comes. I think that if Carolyn knew in advance just how many people may be interested she would be able to make the necessary arrangements with him in advance. Give her a buzz.

Colic is a really awful thing that can present in various ways. Some with very violent rolling, some paw and roll a little and then there are the lie upside down types and plenty of others as well. There should always be gut sounds - mostly quiet...

Although I have been around horses since I was four years old - oh, dear, that was a long time ago - and have in that time amassed a huge amount of knowledge although I find that they teach me more daily. Being open to what horses can teach you is like being on a treasure hunt where you have no idea what gem you will turn up next.

Since I was very young I have descibed horses in colours - not the regular horsey colours like bay, chestnut or grey - but as yellow, green, and red among others. Strange maybe, but each colour is representative of a personality type and although my poor non horsey, ever tolerant mother did not understand she did encourage these strange ideas which allowed them to develop to the extent that they have today where I find that I am blessed with the ability to 'read' horses bodies and emotions. This blessing has extended itself to humans, dogs and cats so far, but being half horse by nature I specialize in this field.

Often, as with many things, it is the human whose attitude and approach needs to change before the hoped for change can be brought about in the horse and I find that loving horse owners are only too ready and willing to make the necessary, and often small changes, in themselves thus reaping the reward of the sought after change in their horse.

Change yourself and you change the world

End or start

The imminent end of the world has been predicted… well, probably since the first humans set foot on the planet. The date now in vogue with some New Age types is December 12, 2012. This coincides with the end of the current cycle of the ancient Mayan calendar, and also marks the day when the sun will be aligned with the exact center of the Milky Way galaxy for the first time in 26,000 years.

As with any doomsday prediction, there are naysayers. Other New Agers say instead of chaos and catastroph… Continue

Debbie, we cantered!!!! In the school, on the correct leads, no disunity....
But I have to take such a strong outside rein that I actually have to bend his head to the outside - very ugly to look at, but hey, it's working, and maybe I will be able to gradually refine the "aid" enough to do a dressage test one day! Am so thrilled though. I think Alex is still giggling about how dreadful the aid was.....Whatever blows the mane back....

Thanks for the info, and the very interesting chat! The Bobster is a challenge...

I find it very strange that Belarus is quite happy to canter all over the farm, except in the jumping arena. He will do everything else in there - walk, trot, go over trotting poles, stop at barrels, pick up scary things, but when I ask for canter, he goes all nappy and silly. So what I do now is take him in there, do everything except canter. Then I go and canter where he feels good - up the hill, along the contours, in the school now.... and in a few days I will then go back to the jumping arena and see what he does. I agree with you about not forcing anything, and I will not do that. I just find it so strange, I would have said that the other stuff I ask him to do would be scarier than cantering, but then, I am not a horse so what do I know. When I can get someone at Chapter two on a horse at the same time as I am, I will try and see what happens, and let you know.

Hi there Debbie. I happened to be at the yard yesterday when our farrier arrived, and stayed to watch him trim Belarus (and of course make sure he did the work himself....) I noticed that B battled to keep his hind legs up comfortably for the time it took John to trim and do what he needed to do. He also gave the wrong hind leg when John asked, but then gave the one that John was touching. He has done this with me once before, but it is not something that happens every time I ask for a back leg, so I have never really worried about it. But the fact that he is battling to canter on anything other than a straight line without going disunited has got me thinking. Is this a balance thing, or a lack of muscle strength that is still having to repair, a bit of both, or is there perhaps something underlying that is more serious? Should I carry on asking him to canter in straight lines, and trying in the school in the more confined space every other day or so? Should I rather just lunge him for a while? (He does tend to canter disunited on the right rein on the lunge in the beginning) He has also always battled to walk freely downhill. He wants to either charge down or crabs and then walks with little quick steps. This is improving, so perhaps it is just a case of building muscle strength?
I have a new monitor and looked at the photos Clare took of B. Now that I can see what is on the monitor, I want to thank her again for the fantastic photos she took. Some of them are really divine, and the others are great! Mark Jacobs is only going to B&H on 10th October, so I will give him the bit to give to Danielle to give to Charles then.
