Let's Talk Horse

Feeling sick to my stomach, thinking of my horses outside in the rain today. Not worried about the TB's. They are rugged up and will come in tonight. But worry about the little Welshies. Shame, no rugs and standing out in this. Sure their 3cm coats will be adequate though. I tend to forget they are horses and this is 100% natural for theim, unlike us. Will also go and give them some extra lucerne tonight. Anyone else out there a ninny like me?

With you all the way, even though I am stabled at Kathy's, who you know, flies out at the first change of weather and covers up! We are so jolly LUCKY to have people like her, who actually do care for the horse, and have the courage of their convictions. Have you though of possibly putting up a shelter in their field? Even a very basic lean to made of scrap can be a blessing when the weather gets like this. If you are interested, I have a plan for one that is made of a few poles and shade netting. Very easy. Otherwise, try telling yourself every half an hour "they are horses, they are fine"!!! Adn of course, go ahead with the extra lucerne!

Ha ha. Might have to take you up on the offer of a plan. I am not too practical when it comes to things like that. Some of the fields have shelters but not all. And they are such a cheeky bunch. You can imagine this - a willful little dinkey donk, but who at the same time is afraid of her shadow, a very bossy 2 year old TB cross who is double the others size, an 18 yr old grumpy mare, a 6 month old filly who believes the world is her oyster and all the other horses are there for her entertainment, and a mishievious 3 year old Welshie. Put all these together in a shelter and you are bound to have something from The Days of our Lives.

Uh, unfortunately yes, always think of the horses out there, but they all have the option to come in if they want.
Mostly they are happy outside and just come in when it rains real hard, first sign of the rain clearing and theyr back out.

Oh Yes!!!!

Constantly concerned about them but I find the ones who have cosy shelters standing in the rain!!!!

yup i certainly feel sorry for them, funny how they keep themselves warm by running and playing when its cold and rainy, i love to watch them, you think just how kind they are when u ride them, as they could have you off within seconds of just mucking about with the enormous amount of power they have! RESPECT!!!!!! and large amounts of it! Hopefully there wont be too many cold and rainy days for the Ponies!

Even horses with rugs out in rough weather make me feel sorry for them, and the extra bit of 'guilty' roughage comes out. But after my mare ripped her brand new snuggly warm outdoor rug (read 1 week old) whilst in the field playing with her mates, I'm afraid she must rough it whilst it gets fixed - I feel beans if they want to act like fillies, whilst I had to save up for that damn rug!!!
