Let's Talk Horse

Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you out there would be interested in taking part in a reliablity Ride. Our farm is situated 2km's from the Garden Route National Park at the Beervlei entrance and we have the most stunning trail rides from 2hrs to much longer. The riding is through some pine plantations and lots of indigenous forests. No farms that we ride through, no gates and the pathways are all good and easy to ride on. If enough of you want to come and explore these forests, I will gladly arrange a ride for you. The horses need to be shod in front, unless they have really good strong hooves and are used to gravel rds and for the 2hr ride they do not have to be very fit. In order to make this fun, I thought of the option of a reliablity ride, whereby we ride the trail and take an optimal time to ride it and the one closest to the time wins. Groups of 4 can enter or Individuals. You will be given a map to navigate and we would have some marshalls along the way to help those that could get lost. The trail will be of a reasonable speed with walks, trot and canters. We will arrange the forest permits for you. At a later stage, we can make a weekend of it and cross the mountains to a farm that has accommodation for riders and horses. Here the horses all need to be shod and fit.
The idea of the reliability ride is that you all have some fun with your horses and we would start off with a 2- 2.5hr ride first and if you are all keen to come again we can make the rides longer. I also think to start off we should have no more than 20 participants. Kids that can ride are most welcome to ride in a group with an adult. I will post some of the scenery pictures on My page or you can lookat www.wildernessadventures. co.za. If any one out there is willing to help me arrange a Le Trek competition and judge it, that could be loads of fun too. I have all the info on how to run a Le Trek competition but no experience whatsoever!!! So to start off let's do some reliability rides and progress from there, if you are keen.

This sound like tremendous fun!!!

All our horses are barefoot so we would need to invest in some boots to be able to join you unless you could come up with a trail or two that is less demanding on the feet.

Just how rough is the terrain??

Hi Debbie,

Our horses are all barefoot for the 2.5 hr trail. The riding is mainly on gravel rds with some places being a bit rocky, but not for too long. The horses can also in lots of places walk on the side where the going is softer. I would say any horse with good strong feet will be ok. Probably not suited for most thoroughbreds, from my experience. Glad you like the idea.
